The E-Merican Dream

The E-Merican Dream

The call of the American West has always been a strong one; rolling plains bubble up into the towering Rockies which then cascade into the sparkling Pacific Ocean at what feels like the worlds end. It is a place that promises adventure, particularly for those on the move. As Jack Kerouac said “Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road.”

Amongst the giant redwoods and cloaking fog rolling in off the sea like a steam train, it seems like the perfect place to start something - and for us that ‘thing’ is what we call the ‘E-Merican Dream’

Conjured up like all the best ideas, in a spark of inspiration with a hint of alcoholic lubrication - the premise came together quickly and rapidly gained traction from there. That premise is this:

  • Cycling 3500 miles across the heart of America
  • 30 days of solo, unsupported riding
  • 13 states of mountains, plains and highways
  • Over 1/3 of the route on gravel trails
  • All done using a Bafang 750w 12ah mid drive kit - one of our favourite set ups

So, a week after it’s initial inception the E-Merican dream is to become a reality. Solo and unsupported I depart Portland tomorrow for the great unknown - countless miles, trials and tribulations will lie ahead and you can follow all the action @cycle.charged, via the blog and on our Facebook page. If you have any questions about our eBike set up, or just want to be part of the journey then please reach out via message or email.

So here we go - the anticipation is real and the words of the late great David Bowie ring in my head “when you feel your feet aren’t quite touching the bottom - you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting”

See you out there
