Why buy a kit when I can buy a brand new e-bike?

The complicated answer is it depends on your needs and budget. The simplest answer is e-bike kits give you greater choice and better value. Buying a new complete e-bike is a compromise between price and the components that come with the bike; battery size, motor position, power rating, suspension, brakes, etc. E-bike kits give you far more flexibility of options because you can choose the size and location of your battery, the location and power rating of motor and fit it into whatever bike you already have or plan to buy! If you go the e-bike kit route you will undoubtedly get more bang for your buck.

How easy is it to install an e-bike kit?

Our kits can easily be installed on a regular bicycle in an hour or two, depending on your level of ability and skill. The easiest kits to install are front drive, then rear drive, and lastly mid-drive. We do recommend that anyone who wants to install a kit have some basic hands-on experience with tools like wrenches and screwdrivers.

Do I need specific tools to install an e-bike kit?

For front and rear hub kits you don't need special or specific tools other than some wrenches, screwdrivers and hexagonal keys. For mid-drive kits you will need a crank puller tool to remove the existing crank assembly from your bike. For all kits and especially mid-drive conversions we recommend buying a tool set that has everything you need.

What if I get stuck during the installation process, can you help me?

Absolutely! Send us an email at info@cyclecharged.com and our team will help you get back on your way.

We guarantee our kits to arrive at your door within 30 days if you live in the USA, UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.

Can I earn an income with my e-bike kit?

Yes! Food delivery is a very popular way to earn money from riding your e-bike.

How far can my bike kit go with an e-bike kit?

The range of your e-bike depends on several things: the quality and type of motor, the size of battery, and is most influenced by what level of power assist you use. The typical range is anywhere between 20-80 km (15-50 miles) However, if you do run out of battery you can still pedal any e-bike like any other bicycle.

How fast can my e-bike go?

Most states/cities in North America have a cycling speed limit of 20 mph (32 km/h), however your e-bike kit may be able to go above that speed by pedalling and using the throttle. Kits with motors of 750W or more can easily reach speeds in excess of 30+ mph (45 km/h)

How long does it take for my battery to charge?

It usually takes anywhere from 4 to 6 hours for an e-bike's lithium-ion battery to charge completely from empty.

Can I get my e-bike to move without pedalling?

All our e-bike kits have a throttle which can get the bike going from a standstill or from a low speed.

How do I protect my e-bike kit from theft?

Always use the highest quality lock when locking your e-bike. If your bike has a removable battery it’s always a good idea to remove it if you are leaving your bike unattended. Remember, no lock is completely guaranteed to keep your bike safe!

What is pedal assist?

Pedal assist is the primary feature of e-bikes, which helps you turn the pedals through use of the motor, powered by the battery.

What's the difference between a 500W and 1000W kit?

The W refers to 'Watts' which is a unit of power. Think of this like a form of 'horsepower' in electric form, the higher the number the more power the motor generates and the faster you can accelerate, the steeper the hill you can climb and the higher the top speed you can achieve.

What's the difference between 36V and 48V batteries?

The 'V' stands for Voltage, and in simple terms the higher the voltage number the more power the battery is able to discharge. It's also really important to match the Voltage of the motor exactly with that of the battery. That's why our kits that come with separate batteries need to be matched.

Which e-bike kit is right for me?

Our e-bike kits are listed by type on the home page: Rear hub, mid-drive, and front hub. The links for those pages are great at helping you figure out which type of kit best suits your needs depending on your use, environment, etc.

Are there restrictions on where I can use my e-bike?

All e-bikes must respect the rules of the road, which vary locally from city to city, state to state and from province to province.

Do I have to wear a helmet when riding an e-bike?

For safety reasons it’s always a good idea to wear a helmet on an e-bike, especially given the speeds that they can reach. Local laws for wearing helmets on bicycles vary, so be sure to check in your area.
